Take Home Point:

RCRI is determined by the following factors.

1) Elevated risk surgery

2) History of ischemic heart disease.

3) History of CHF

4) History of cerebrovascular disease.

5) Diabetes mellitus on insulin therapy (preoperatively).

6) Preoperative Creatinine >2 mg/dL

Correlation of RCRI score and risks of major cardiac event (MI, cardiac arrest or death at 30 days after non-cardiac surgery)

--> RCRI score 0 = 3.9% risk of major cardiac event.

--> RCRI score 1 = 6.0% risk of major cardiac event.

--> RCRI score 2 = 10.1% risk of major cardiac event.

--> RCRI score >/= 3 = 15% risk of major cardiac event.

AUB-HAS2 CV index is determined by the following factors:

(2 factors per each letter of HAS; hence, HAS 2).

AUB --> American University of Beirut

1) History of Heart disease

2) Symptoms of Heart disease (angina or dyspnea)

3) Age >75

4) Anemia (Hgb <12mg/dL)

5) Vascular Surgery

6) Emergency Surgery

AUB-HAS2 was found to have superior discriminatory power compared with the RCRI. It was found to be more comprehensive in risk stratification.
