Rotation Information
Welcome to Pediatric Anesthesia! On this two month adventure you will learn how to manage common pediatric cases including tonsils and adenoids, dental, ear tubes, and much more! Hint hint, kids are not just smaller adults! During this rotation you will deepen your understanding of pediatric physiology, develop proficiency in managing pediatric airways and placing IVs, and be exposed to common pediatric emergencies and how to deal with them.
Helpful Hints
Always start off your set up by placing code dose epinephrine, baby epi (100 mcg syringe), succinylcholine, rocuronium, and a couple 5cc syringes in the top right vaporizer storage compartment of the anesthesia machine. These should be immediately accessible in an emergency.
Have multiple sizes of airway equipment ready for each case. You don’t have to open everything but it is better to be able to upsize/downsize quickly without having to dig through drawers.
On days with high turnover, try to be efficient by preparing circuits, fluids, syringes, etc for the next case if you have downtime and the patient is stable.
